Overview
Our customisation service allows you to personalise select Atelier Cara designs with your choice of gemstone, creating a piece that is uniquely yours within our existing signature silhouettes.
Please note that this is not a bespoke or fully custom design service. Customisation is limited to gemstone selection within pre-existing Atelier Cara designs. No changes to the setting style, metal type or overall design structure will be made unless explicitly stated on the individual product listing or agreed as part of a quotation-based customisation.
As each piece is individually made to order, there may be slight variations between finished pieces, even when made to the same design and specifications. Natural differences in gemstone character, the handcrafted nature of the setting, and variations between individual stones mean that no two pieces will ever be completely identical. This is part of what makes each Atelier Cara piece genuinely one of a kind.
Product Images & Visual References
We may use computer-generated images and/or existing product photographs of the same or similar design as visual references only. These images are intended to provide a general representation of the design and finished piece and should not be understood as an exact representation of the final product.
As each customisation piece is made to order using individually hand-selected stones, the finished piece may differ slightly from the images shown, including in the following ways:
- Gemstone colour, tone and saturation: The exact appearance of a natural gemstone may vary from what is displayed on screen due to differences in screen calibration, lighting conditions and photographic rendering.
- Setting measurements and proportions: While the overall design and style of the setting will remain consistent with the reference, the exact measurements and proportions of individual elements — such as the bail, claws/prongs, bezel and other setting details — may vary slightly depending on the individual stone's measurements, shape, depth and proportions. This allows the setting to be appropriately proportioned and fitted to the specific stone used.
- Gold finish and appearance: The exact appearance and finish of the gold may vary slightly under different lighting conditions and in person compared with the reference images.
Types of Customisation
Our customisation service is available through the following options:
1. Standard Customisation
Where a product listing offers a selection of gemstone options, you may choose from the available stones shown on the listing. The design, setting style and other specifications will remain as stated on the individual product listing.
2. Loose Stone with Setting Add-On
Select loose gemstones may be purchased with the option to have the stone set into an existing Atelier Cara design.
All loose stones listed on our website are in stock and on hand. Where a setting add-on is available, the loose stone and selected setting can be purchased together through the website.
The displayed total includes both the gemstone and the selected setting, with all applicable setting fees included. No additional setting fees will be charged after purchase.
Where a setting option is listed as “Enquire” rather than an available add-on, the setting cost will be quoted separately and must be confirmed before production commences.
3. Quotation-Based Customisation
For requests involving a specific gemstone type, colour, cut or size that is not available as a standard option, please contact us via our contact page before placing an order.
Quotation-based customisation may also include enquiries about setting a purchased loose stone into an existing Atelier Cara design where a setting add-on is not available, or requests to customise an existing Atelier Cara design with a specific stone of your choice.
We will assess the feasibility of your request and provide a quotation accordingly. Quotation-based customisation remains subject to gemstone availability and our ability to accommodate the requested specifications.
Payment
For customisation orders placed directly through our website, full payment is required at the time of purchase.
This includes loose stone purchases, whether or not a setting is selected, as well as any customisation where the full amount is displayed and payable through website checkout.
For quotation-based customisation, a 50% non-refundable deposit of the quoted amount is required to confirm and commence the order. The remaining 50% balance is due prior to dispatch.
No production or customisation work will commence until the required payment has been received.
Quotation-Based Customisation: Gemstone Availability
Quotation-based customisation is subject to gemstone availability. Where a suitable stone cannot be sourced, any deposit paid will be refunded to the original payment method.
This refund does not apply where a suitable gemstone has been sourced and confirmed and the customer subsequently decides not to proceed with the order.
In the unlikely event that Atelier Cara is unable to fulfil a confirmed customisation order, a full refund of any payments made will be provided.
Production & Dispatch
All customisation pieces are made to order.
Customisation using an in-hand gemstone: Where a customer purchases a gemstone that is already in stock and in hand at Atelier Cara, any resulting customisation or setting work will be carried out in Australia.
Customisation involving gemstone sourcing: Where Atelier Cara sources a gemstone specifically for a customer's customisation, the resulting jewellery may be made either in Australia or overseas, depending on the gemstone, design, production requirements and availability of our production partners.
Where relevant, the expected production location may be discussed as part of the quotation process.
Estimated production and dispatch timeframes will be indicated on the individual product listing or provided at the time of quotation. These timeframes are estimates only. While we will always aim to meet the stated timeframe, unforeseen delays may occasionally occur. We will communicate any significant changes to the estimated timeframe as promptly as reasonably possible.
Cancellations
Because customisation pieces are made to order specifically for each customer, orders cannot be cancelled once placed, including where production has not yet commenced.
For quotation-based customisation, the 50% deposit is non-refundable once the order has been confirmed and the customisation process has commenced.
Please consider your purchase carefully before placing an order. We strongly encourage you to contact us with any questions regarding the gemstone, design, measurements or customisation options before purchasing.
Returns & Exchanges
As customisation pieces are made to order specifically for you, we do not accept returns or exchanges for change of mind.
This includes circumstances where the finished piece differs slightly from a reference image in gemstone appearance, setting proportions or other details described within these Terms and Conditions.
If your piece arrives with a manufacturing fault, please contact us within 7 days of delivery so that we can assess the issue and arrange an appropriate resolution.
Our 7-day reporting period does not limit any rights you may have under the Australian Consumer Law.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions is intended to exclude, restrict or modify any rights or remedies available to you under applicable Australian Consumer Law.
Gemstone Colour & Appearance
Natural gemstones are unique by nature. Even within the same gemstone type and colour description, individual stones may vary in tone, saturation, inclusions, transparency and overall character. These natural variations are not considered defects and are an inherent characteristic of natural gemstones.
Colours displayed in photographs and visual references may also vary depending on screen settings, lighting conditions, device calibration and photographic rendering. We always do our best to describe each gemstone as accurately as possible and encourage you to contact us with any questions before purchasing.
For International Customers
All prices are listed in AUD.
Customers are responsible for any currency conversion or bank fees associated with their purchase. Prices are exclusive of customs fees, local duties, import taxes and any other charges imposed by the destination country.
Any such fees or charges are the responsibility of the customer.

By placing a customisation order with Atelier Cara, you confirm that you have read, understood and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.
